Crowns & Bridges

Porcelain crowns or "caps" are sometimes used in our practice today. Because the enamel has to be totally removed, the more conservative porcelain veneer is generally the treatment of choice. When teeth are broken at the gum line or replacement crowns are needed, porcelain crowns are the recommended treatment. Dr. R. Stephen Willding prefers the all-porcelain crown over crowns made of porcelain fused to metal. The all-porcelain crowns are much more aesthetic, and do not have the ugly black line at the gum line. Some advantages of porcelain crowns are:

bulletStronger than natural teeth, porcelain crowns are very durable.
bulletExcellent choice for restoring severely fractured teeth or replacing old crowns.
bulletNo black line at the gum line.
bulletWill not stain or change color.
bulletGreat finished results.

Fixed Bridges: Removable teeth, no matter how well made, do not feel or function like natural teeth. Historically fixed bridges came as close as possible to the feel of natural teeth. However, this necessitates "cutting down" and crowning natural healthy teeth to support the bridge.
